MOVEMENT OF JAH TROOPERS

The film of the journey….

Still in the making…. since the conception of the group the journey has proven to be a purpose led mission. Emerging as a sound system crew of youths in the late 90s in the UK, they revitalised the sound system culture among a generation where it was in decline. The Sound organically became a platform and springboard for aspiring artists, musicians and creatives.

SOUND SYSTEM

Over the years, Jah Troopers Sound System has featured numerous DJs and selectors, covering a diverse range of music styles from Revival Reggae to UK Garage and Hip Hop. Despite this diversity, the group has always adhered to a strict music policy, keeping it clean and conscious.

Jah Troopers established their name on the UK and European Reggae scene as an entertaining and skillful juggling sound, performing alongside legendary acts such as Sir Coxsone Outernational, Stone Love, Bass Odyssey, Downbeat The Ruler, David Rodigan, Jah Love Muzik, and King Stur Gav.

The sound also made a significant impact on the UK rave circuit, featuring on renowned rave brands like Sidewinder (UKG), Random Concept, and Helta Skelta (Drum N Bass). During this period, they performed with crews such as Heartless Crew, So Solid, Pay As You Go, Boy Better Know, Nasty Crew, and more.

Their dynamic versatility made them a perfect fit for a wide variety of events. Jah Troopers often supported international artists on UK tours, including Donell Jones, Pretty Ricky, Styles P, Beenie Man, Chaka Demus & Pliers, and more.

MUSIC LABEL

With Jah Troopers establishing it’s own platform with a host of Artists the organic direction for the group was to be able to provide their artists with artist development support. These activities then formed infrastructures for a music label, setting up their base as the studio, which would see the birth and growth of many local artists, and host sessions with national and even international artists and musicians.

EVENT PROMOTIONS

The pillars that made Jah Troopers a household name and has helped the brand stand the test of time is Roots Reggae Music and Dancehall.

In 2011, the group launched Caribbean City, a Dancehall event brand that brings the vibrant atmosphere of the Caribbean to the UK with music, food, and an unbeatable vibe. This regular club night quickly became a hit, running weekly and then monthly until 2018. It featured some of the UK’s top DJs and attracted international collaborations, including an exchange series with Berlin’s event brand ‘Heads Up High’.

To cater more to the Roots Reggae and mature audiences, Jah Troopers introduced Reggae Corner (originally ‘Reggae Sound System Corner’) in 2015. This monthly event showcased sound systems from across the UK, serving as both an exhibition and a celebration of reggae culture. It integrated with Jah Troopers other media platforms, including their radio show and YouTube videos, featuring in-depth interviews with guests to share their stories and journeys.

Reggae Corner expanded to include artists and musicians, building a portfolio of national and international acts such as King Addis (USA), Bushman (Jamaica), Mighty Crown (Japan), and Platinum Cartel (UK), making it a resounding success.
